About Us


BCF is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. We have 11 directors and over 150 members. Our company operates within the geographical area of Burnfoot in Hawick.

We have two main aims:

  • to improve the well-being, quality of life and opportunities of the people of Burnfoot
  • to enhance the social, cultural, recreational and educational facilities, environment and economy of Burnfoot.

Established in 2006, BCF has worked within the community on the development of one of the first community action planning exercises in the Borders. Since 2007 BCF has taken forward a number of actions resulting from the Burnfoot Local Community Action Plan (2007 – 2010) and has been involved in the direct delivery of a range of projects from the plan.

BCF Board of Directors has a range of skills in project management, financial management, people skills, employment skills, facility management skills, health and safety, administration, marketing, garden maintenance, running and organising groups, and experience in youth work.

Past Projects Supported by BCF

Burnfoot Local Community Action Planning 2007-10 (LCAP) project – (launched April 2007)

In 2007 BCF helped to obtain funding and commence in the first Local Community Action plan for Burnfoot. As part of this project every household within Burnfoot received a survey in which to express their views & opinions in to how to improve Burnfoot. The results we gathered and then compiled into the (lcap doc) and in turn this research was used to retain funding for multiple projects throughout the Burnfoot area that have benefited the community immencely. Some of which are:

  • BIG Development Funding Stage – Burnfoot Hub Project (2012)
  • Burnfoot shops front improvements (2007 – 2010 and ongoing)
  • Burnfoot Multi Use Games Area (2009)
  • Sleep valley Park upgrade (2008 -2010)

Participatory Budgeting Funding 2017

BCF was responsible for securing the participatory Budgeting Grant of £30,000. As a result of this award a sub group of volunteers with support from Community Learning and Development worked together to help deliver the project to the wider community. The project was an outstanding success with grant of £30,000 being seen to be distributed into the community via a community engagement day voting system. Multiple organizations participated in applying for funding support. The evnt day was well received within the community with over 300 residents attended to share their views on how the funding should be allocated.

Annual Community Events

As well as larger projects BCF are responsible for hosting a variety of volunteer organized events through out the year. These consist of Christmas light Switch on and family day, Halloween Family Disco, Easter event as well as well as many more. The main aim in hosting these family events are to help produce low cost family activities for the community that all the family can enjoy. Each event on average hosts from 100-350 residents.
